In an exciting turn of events, two Windsor Spitfires players have been honored as Canadian Hockey League (CHL) All-Stars, further solidifying their statuses as rising stars in the hockey world. According to AM 800, the CHL made the announcement, bringing well-deserved recognition to these young athletes.

The Rising Star: Ilya Protas

Ilya Protas, a noteworthy forward for the Spitfires, has claimed his spot on the Second All-Star Team. This 18-year-old from Vitebsk, Belarus, has captured the attention of fans and scouts alike with his exceptional performance throughout the season. As a prospect for the Washington Capitals, Protas dazzled audiences with his skill, accumulating 124 points and achieving a remarkable +58 rating over 61 games. His triumph came not only in the form of points but also an accolade—the 2024-25 William Hanley Trophy, recognizing him as the OHL’s Most Sportsmanlike Player.

A Phenomenal Debut

Protas has managed to carve his name into the record books by becoming the first player to score 50 goals in his debut OHL season since Alex DeBrincat’s similar feat in 2014-15. His performance has earned him high praise and positioned him as a formidable presence on the ice.

Liam Greentree’s Stellar Year

Following closely behind is Spits captain Liam Greentree, named to the Third All-Star Team. Hailing from Oshawa, Ontario, Greentree’s prowess on ice was undeniable as he led his team with finesse and determination. In his third season with Windsor, he notched an impressive 49 goals and 119 points over 64 games, finishing fifth in the CHL scoring list for the year.

From Underneath to the Top

Greentree’s leadership guided the Windsor Spitfires from the depths of the standings to newfound glory, topping the OHL’s West Division with 45 wins and 96 points. His impressive “+55” rating exemplifies his value on both ends of the ice, further demonstrated by his substantial 306 shots on goal—the second-highest in the OHL.

Recognition from the Community

The CHL All-Star selections culminated from a rigorous voting process involving media members who regularly report on the league. Their participation ensured the authenticity and prestige of the awards, as they highlighted the exceptional talents of not only the Spitfires but also other promising players across the CHL landscape.

As the season wraps up, the accolades for Ilya Protas and Liam Greentree stand as testaments to their dedication, skill, and the promising future that lies ahead for these young hockey talents.
