AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts hockey team is set to welcome a formidable new talent to their roster for the 2025-26 season—Lukas Klecka, the promising 5-11, 179-pound forward from Bratislava, Slovakia. Announced by head coach Greg Carvel, Klecka is poised to bring his international flair and impressive stats to the Minutemen lineup.

A Rising Star with International Experience

Klecka has not only made waves in his home country but has also showcased his prowess on the international stage. He has represented Slovakia at various levels, making notable contributions at the U20, U19, and U18 levels. Klecka demonstrated his skill during the 2025 World Junior Championships in Ottawa, where he played alongside current UMass standout, Daniel Jencko. Before joining UMass, Klecka honed his skills in Sweden with the Södertälje SK J20. Over three seasons, he amassed a remarkable 104 points through 33 goals and 71 assists across 144 matches. His 2024-25 season was particularly impressive, with Klecka scoring 35 points, punctuated by 13 goals and 22 assists in just 42 games.
