The League of Nations will try to be more attractive
UEFA says the introduction of quarterfinals and playoffs in the revamped Nations League will make it a "more attractive" competition.
The new expanded format will begin in September 2024.
As before, there will be groups of four teams, but out of the 16 highest-ranked teams in League A, the top two teams will qualify for a two-match quarterfinal in March 2025, with the group winners meeting the runners-up.
The winners of these matches will advance to the Final Four in June 2025.
As in the current format, the fourth-place team in its League A group will be relegated to a lower league.
But the third-place team will be in the promotion playoffs, and the second-place team in League B will also have a chance for promotion.
"This makes the Nations League a more attractive competition, with more interesting and attractive knockout matches," said UEFA Deputy Secretary General Giorgio Marchetti.
