The players and coach were not even consulted:

"The Manly Sea Eagles issued special uniforms to support LGBT rights. Instead of the traditional white stripes, rainbow colors appeared on the clothing.

But seven players refused to wear the new uniforms. Coach Des Hasler stood up for the guys, saying it had to do with their personal and religious beliefs. Also, there was very little talk with the team about the new uniforms.

The scandal quickly grew to national proportions. But the athletes' decision was taken positively. The head of the Australian Rugby League Commission said he respected the Manly players' right to freedom.

Even the Prime Minister of Australia made a comment. He asked for understanding of the position of the rugby players.
