In a spectacular display of teamwork and determination, Oak Glen’s girls’ tennis team claimed the OVAC small school tennis team title, ending Linsly’s 13-year reign. Held at the picturesque John Marshall High School, the courts basked in the sun’s glow as Oak Glen barely edged past the Cadets with an 11-10 victory.

A New Dawn in Small School Tennis

Led by the seasoned head coach Ken Keller, Oak Glen’s triumph was a true team effort. While the team had no finalists, the players showcased resilience and sportsmanship. Their only semifinalist, Reese Witherow, put up a valiant fight in the semifinals but ultimately fell to University’s Hannah Stemple in a close 9-7 match. The team, consisting of Leah McMahon, Elle Monaco, Zoey Caughey, Ruby Chaney, and Roxye Brown, already looks promising for future successes with a young lineup featuring only one senior.

Coach Keller’s Vision and Gratitude

Reflecting on Oak Glen’s success, Coach Keller expressed delight at finally breaking the streak of runner-up finishes. “This was absolutely a total team effort. We’ve been the runner-up many times, so this victory is especially sweet. We’ve got a young team, and I see a bright future for us,” shared Keller with evident pride.

Big Schools and Fierce Competitions

While Oak Glen celebrated their accomplishment in the small school division, the ‘Big School’ Class 5A category saw Morgantown triumph with their tenth victory in twelve years. They edged out Wheeling Park with a 25-19 victory. Meanwhile, Wheeling Park’s Madeline Bradshaw, a junior, shone brightly with her 8-0 win over Morgantown’s Maya Greenlee, marking her 100th career win.

An Exciting Future Lies Ahead

Thursday’s tournament highlighted the spirited ambiance and the fierce yet friendly competition among the teams. As Oak Glen takes this monumental win home, the Ohio Valley Athletic Conference tennis scene anticipates more thrilling matches and budding tennis stars in the future.

According to reviewonline.com, Oak Glen’s tennis journey is one to watch as they continue to captivate fans with their skill and determination.
