Future Devils Basketball Program Sparks Enthusiasm Among Young Girls in Quincy
A New Dawn for Young Aspirants
The bustling town of Quincy is witnessing a renaissance in girls’ basketball, with the Future Devils program lighting the way for young enthusiasts. Spearheaded by Quincy Junior High Girl’s Basketball coach Elizabeth Seals, the initiative aims to reignite both passion and skill for the sport among the town’s young ladies.
Filling a Void with Purpose
Over recent years, Quincy saw a significant decline in participation from younger girls in basketball. Coach Seals noted the downward trend. “This is my 5th year coaching girls’ basketball and just noticing our numbers have been depleting,” she expressed. It was this observation that sowed the seeds for the Future Devils initiative, designed to refine and enhance basketball skills right from elementary levels.
Building a Stronger Community
By empowering girls from a young age, the program doesn’t just prepare them for competitive basketball but fosters lasting community ties. According to Coach Seals, it’s about much more than winning. “We’re teaching values, being good people, and the importance of collaboration and family spirit,” she stated passionately.
Gearing Up for the Future
On the high school front, there’s palpable excitement, as QHS girl’s head basketball coach Brad Dance anticipates the long-term benefits. “Numbers were down at junior high and that carried over to high school,” Dance shared. The Future Devils is set to change this narrative, setting foundational skills early on and ensuring continued engagement as the girls advance in their education.
