Former Real Madrid player Amancio Amaro dies

Former Real Madrid player Amancio Amaro's heart stopped beating at the age of 83, according to the club's official website.

Amancio Amaro spent most of his career with the Spanish royal club, winning nine Spanish titles, three Spanish Cups and the European Champions Cup. Also played for the Spanish national team, with which won the European Championship in 1964.

He was a player of Real Madrid from 1962 until 1976. During these 14 seasons he played 471 games and scored 155 goals.

Amancio also left his legacy on the coaching bench of Real Madrid. He coached Castilla (1982-1984) and the Madrid first team (1984-1985).

On 2 October 2022, he was unanimously elected as honorary president of Real Madrid at the Extraordinary General Assembly.
