Football is more than goals and records. It is also boundless respect
The referee did not give Kudus a yellow card. A case for which an exception can be made.
The day before yesterday, Mohammed honoured the memory of Atsu, who died in Turkey, by showing an inscription on his T-shirt. Normally you can't do that, but the referee couldn't help but get into the Ghanaian player's position.
After the game, Kudus thanked Paul van Bukel:
"The matter of life and death goes beyond football rules. The referee told me you can't take your shirt off, but he understands that it's more than football."
Fans have also noticed the humanity of the referee. Warm messages are now flying in from all over the world to Paul with words of gratitude, including from the loved ones of the deceased Christian.
