Crazy NBA novelty: "I've never seen anything like it."
Luka Doncic led the Dallas Mavericks to a record home win over the New York Knicks in the NBA North American Basketball League. The Slovenian set a team record of 126-121 (55-63) with 60 points in extra time. The old one was held by Dirk Nowitzki with 53 points. In addition, Doncic presented a novelty with his performance.
With 21 rebounds and ten assists, Doncic notched his seventh so-called triple-double this season with double-digits in three statistical categories. The 23-year-old became the first player in NBA history to score 60 points, 20 rebounds and 10 assists per game. "I'm tired as hell. I need a beer to relax," Doncic joked in a TV interview after the game.
"The Mavs fought back furiously in the fourth quarter: with 33 seconds on the clock, the home team trailed by nine points, but still escaped in overtime. In the final seconds, Doncic went to the free-throw line with a three-point lead. The point guard hit his first attempt, intentionally missed his second attempt, grabbed a ricochet and tied the score in the air.
In overtime, the Mavs pulled away thanks to a 10-3 score. "I've never seen anything like it," team owner Mark Cuban said enthusiastically about Doncic's performance. German pro Isaiah Hartenstein scored five points for the Knicks.
